As part of the School of Family and Public Health Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, College of Health Sciences at the UKZN, CRH realises the benefits of its positioning in three ways:

1. It has a strong commitment to furthering learning for rural health practice. Research done by CRH and others shows that the earlier health science students are exposed to the realities of health care in the rural context, the more likely they are to choose the rural environment as a career path. CRH plays a critical teaching, advocacy, and orientation role in preparing students for the realities of practice in South Africa, where most of the country may be considered 'rural'.
