CRH STATEMENT OF IDENTITY

What does CRH do?

CRH exists to facilitate the realisation of optimal health care and quality of life for underserved and marginalised rural communities through the:
• health system;
• university; and
• community networks.

What is the problem that CRH is the solution to?

The poor quality of and access to health care for poor communities in rural areas.

How does CRH address this problem?

CRH uses the following to address the problem:
1. Research
2. Formal education programmes
3. Capacity building (including: training; support; networking; and appropriate interventions)
4. Advocacy

Who are the beneficiaries of CRH's work?

1. The Department of Health;
2. Health workers;
3. Students; and
4. Communities through community networks.

What is important and valued for CRH as it does its work?

1.Equity, justice and fairness.
2. Excellence, including:
• Ensuring that the work is making a difference.
• That the job is done well and to deadline.
• Evidence-based health care practice.
3. Teamwork, including:
• Respect for each other.
• Encouragement and recognition.
• Envisioned leadership
• Consensus on decision-making
• Excellent communication (speaking, listening and giving feedback).
• Taking responsibility for oneself.
• Accountability to each other.
• Forgiving each other.
• Matters are resolved no matter how difficult.

Where does CRH see itself in five years time?
In 2011 CRH will be the leading agent for improvements in rural health in Southern Africa (God help us!!)
