We work to improve the health of rural communities through research, capacity building and advocacy.
The Centre for Rural Health (CRH) is based at the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa. We work with the public health system, community networks and the university to improve the health care offered to underserved communities in rural areas.
The availability and quality of health care in rural areas is often compromised, leaving these communities without adequate access to care. Using research, education programmes, capacity building and advocacy, we work to address these challenges. Those who benefit are health workers, officials from the public health system, health science students, and residents of rural communities.
We are continually developing as an organisation in order to be an effective agent of change in rural health. As such we value equity, justice, excellence, teamwork, integrity and sustainability, and have a vision of being a leading agent for improvement in rural health in southern Africa. |
